Do you want to play your first game of Altered TCG as soon as possible? Read here what you need to get started and how the game works. Do you have any questions after this? Then take a look at the extensive How to Play page.
Altered is played with two players. Both players need their own deck of 39 cards and one hero. The easiest thing to do is with a starter deck to start, but you can also create your own deck. One set of three Tumult cards is needed, a First Player token and a number of Expedition tokens and status tokens. A playmat is recommended for an overview, but is not necessary. Now you have everything to start playing.
Take the three Tumult cards, shuffle them and place them short sides together, upside down between the players. Place the Hero and Companion Expedition cards on either side of the Tumult cards showing
Have your Hero and Companion travel through the Tumult and make sure they meet before your opponent's do.
Take six cards. Choose three cards as your starting hand and place the rest upside down in your mana zone: these are the resources you use to play your cards.
Players take turns playing one card (Character, Spell or Permanent cards) until both players pass.
Add the attributes (Mountain, Forest, Ocean) of your Characters in an Expedition. If one of your attributes is higher than your opponent's and matches the Expedition, your marker can move to the next region.
Your Characters go to Reserve. They can be replayed from your Reserve during a subsequent day (play turn), sometimes with a different mana cost and/or new abilities.
At the start of a new day, both players draw two cards and may then place a maximum of one card from their hand in their mana zone.
Many of the rules are further explained in Altered's Quickstart Rules. You can download the rule booklet below.
